Kids Birthday Party Face Painting

Most kids up to a certain age that I can not personally define love to get some thing painted on their face. Now at a birthday party is even better because it is free and you don’t have to wait for strangers to do it, and usually you don’t have to wait in a long line. So I think it is an awesome idea.

Most mom’s have some what of a little artistic ability, usually they can do more ‘girly’ things like flowers and butterfly’s, but some are very talented. Some men are artists as well, it depends on what you are capable of, who you know that is artistic, or if you have it in your budget to hire some one. A lot of the time one of the guests older siblings might even be up for doing it. This part is up to you!

Researching in your area about it will help. Depends how professional you want to go. For me I wouldn’t mind painting little pics on little faces, that is fun to me. Maybe not, however if I am the one throwing the party… see what I am getting at? Or maybe you carve out a time that you allow yourself to be available for painting. It can work out just fine.

One more great tip is to make sure you have a small list from which they can choose. Kids have a hard time making up their mind. It would also be hard if they pick things you can’t do quickly or your picture can’t be identified.

It is possible that the face painting will be one of the most challenging yet rewarding tasks at the party. Despite being tedious, especially for overly enthusiastic kids who can’t wait to see the end product, it should make them very happy. There will be a learning curve, to say the least.

An important factor is to make sure kids aren’t allergic to any paint you will be using. Make sure you have the parents permission. You might want to mention it on the invites so parents can inform you when the RSVP if it is okay or not. This will give the parents an opportunity to also tell them if they happen to have any skin allergies.

In addition to skin allergies, make sure you don’t do any party of the skin with wounds or rashes, it just might complicate things. You don’t want to make a problem worse for a child on accident. That would be more sad then just telling the child that this paint could make their rash worse.

Materials you can find at most craft stores like Micheal’s. I would definitely use paint made for the face. There are endless possibilities on what other paints could do to a child’s face. Some come with kits where you have what you need, even cute designs to follow or pics to draw… which will come in handy if you are going for it! Read directions and let the parents and children know how to wash it off.

I would make sure you have paint brushes for each color. Sponges for mess ups and clean ups, and a few bowls with water. I would go with the size that comes with the face painting kit and smaller, for detail. Better quality will give you a better result, but it is your call.

Now if you are going to hire someone then all of this is just useless information to you, but I bet you are now wondering if you should do it yourself. I think if you are artsy and would enjoy it… give it a try. I would also suggest practicing before party, on your kids of course.

Good Luck… it will be a success no matter how you pull it off!!!
