I have a 6 month old boy who is a fire pistol. He is my fourth so he seems to think he should be able to go where he wants and see everything through the ‘Daddy and Mamma train’, even though he can hardley sit up by himself. It is like he is bored most of the day if we are not making a great effort to entertain him.
This gave me a thought for his first birthday party ideas. It does seem like usually the First Birthday Parties are more for the parents and grandparents then the actual child. It is hard to remember how far out I went with my other children.
Since he is my last I think about his birthday and I wonder how far should I go, how much money should I spend…is it worth it? At this point I think going simple is the way to go.
There is no reason for fancy plates and napkins, and two hours of decorating with streamers. You can probably get away with some balloons you blew up yourself. He is going to love the interaction, and balloons, and new toys.
That led me to the next thought…does this overwhelm the children with all the chaos and people who are unrecognizable?
Personally even though my little guy is social…it is only toward his imediate family, and to overwhelm him with kids he could careless are there is a waste of my time and energy.
With your first few kids it seems so important to celebrate to great lengths…but with 6 members in our family, we can have a small party with ‘just us’, and it is a Party!
If you want to go out for your little one, please don’t take this as a criticizm, it is great to celebrate your children, and sometimes I wish I could go all out for them.
For the ones who don’t want to or can’t…don’t feel pressured to. I think kids can appreciate simple and more special time just as much…or maybe even more.
